I have been practising Tai Chi for half a year now. I love it, but I realise I am very stiff. From beginning and saw that I was very much thinking and moving as a karateka from Shotokan: the last part of the movement was the goal for every move – but in Tai Chi there is no such moment. The movements are cirkular and there is no stop in the moves.

When I started practise Tai Chi I had a lot of pains in my knee and my joints. I blogged about that here. Slowly most of the pain disappeared.

There are five major styles of tai chi chuan, each named after the Chinese family from which it originated:

    * Chen style (??) of Chen Wangting (1580–1660)
* Yang style (??) of Yang Lu-ch’an (1799-1872)
* Wu or Wu/Hao style (??) of Wu Yu-hsiang (1812-1880)
* Wu style (??) of Wu Ch’uan-yu (1834–1902) and his son Wu Chien-ch’uan (1870-1942)
* Sun style (??) of Sun Lu-t’ang (1861–1932)

Facts about Tai Chi from Wikipedia:

Tai chi chuan (simplified Chinese: ???; traditional Chinese: ???; pinyin: tàijíquán; Wade-Giles: t’ai4 chi2 ch’üan2) (literal translation “Supreme Ultimate Fist”) is an internal Chinese martial art often practiced for health reasons. It is also typically practiced for a variety of other personal reasons: its hard and soft martial art technique, demonstration competitions, and longevity. Consequently, a multitude of training forms exist, both traditional and modern, which correspond to those aims. Some of tai chi chuan’s training forms are well known to Westerners as the slow motion routines that groups of people practice together every morning in parks around the world, particularly in China.

Today, tai chi has spread worldwide. Most modern styles of tai chi trace their development to at least one of the five traditional schools: Chen, Yang, Wu/Hao, Wu and Sun.

Mostly people practise either the form of 48 moves or the shorter form with 24 moves.

Here is a picture with the 24-form.

The Swedisk Karate Clubs willl get an form an own federation. Until now the Swedish Karate Clubs have been organized the Swedish Budo & Martial Arts Federation.

Newly it was deciced that the Swedish Karate clubs will form an Federation of their own.

If you understand Swedish you can read more about it in the homepage of Swedish Budo & Martial Arts Federation.

There are also a number of martial arts that are not connected to a federation.
Currently there are eighteen different sports within the organisation.

The sports included are:

Aikido Japanese self-defence art

EKF Taikai, European Championship in kyudo 2008, is arranged in Stockholm, Sweden. I went there the first day and saw the teamcompetion.

I suppose the results will be shown here, at the webpage.

What is Kyudo?

Kyudo, which literally means The Way of the Bow, is considered by many to be the purest of all the martial ways. In the past, the Japanese bow was used for hunting, war, court ceremonies, games, and contests of skill. The original word for Japanese archery was kyujutsu (bow technique) which encompassed the skills and techniques of the warrior archer. Some of the ancient schools, known as ryu, survive today, along with the ancient ceremonies and games, but the days where the Japanese bow was used as a weapon are long past. Modern kyudo is practiced primarily as a method of physical, moral, and spiritual development.

No one knows exactly when the term kyudo came into being but it was not until the late nineteenth century when practice centered almost exclusively around individual practice that the term gained general acceptance. The essence of modern kyudo is said to be synonymous with the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.

A place I want very much to visit one day is the Shaolin temple in the province of Henan in China. Swedish newspapers report today that the toilets there have been remaked.

Since I have been blogging quite a lot the last two years I have not been practising Martial Arts much at all. It is time to quite blogging and take up the important things again, the stuff that really last: the Martial Art practise.

I found some nice films from the Shaolin temple in Henan in YouTube.

In April 2002 Si Gung Henry Sue, six Masters and seven brown sashes were invited by the Shaolin Temple monks in the Henan Province (China), all this was organised within 4 weeks.
Si Gung Henry Sue’s Sifu who resides in Hong Kong was there to greet the entourage as Representatives of the Australian Dong gong Chow Gar Tong Long Kung Fu.

Upon arriving in the Honan Province – China, they were greeted by Shi De Yang – the headmaster of Kung Fu at the Shaolin Temple, this is a great honour and a rare occasion.

Jōdō (杖道:じょうどう, Jōdō?), meaning “the way of the jō”, or jōjutsu (杖術:じょうじゅつ, jōjutsu?) is a Japanese martial art using short staves called jō.

The art is similar to bōjutsu, and is strongly focused upon defense against the Japanese sword. The jō is a short staff, usually about 3 to 5 feet (0.9 to 1.5 m) long, about the average length of a walking stick.

However, the art was not used, as one might fancifully imagine, by travelers to ward off aggressive bandits or swordsmen. The martial art of jōdō was the province of professional warriors.
